Fleet Training

Classroom training:

The classroom is offered in a four-hour format. Classes are held at your place of business. We will need to be supplied with a meeting room, a TV and VCR. An overhead projector would be beneficial, but is not required.

We use the video “Coaching the Van Driver” from the National Safety Council. Employees would be completing a workbook during the course of the video. The topics covered in the video are:

  • Vehicle Characteristics: What to be aware of when driving, braking, turning, accelerating and blind spots.
  • Vehicle Inspections: What standard equipment to check and why
  • Safe Driving Skills: Road conditions, following distances, stopping distances, blind spots, HVH-scanning ahead, right turns, left turns, different types of intersections, freeway on and off ramps, use of radio/cell phone in vehicle, safety precautions in bad weather and night driving.

Also used in the classroom is a booklet developed by ODTI. Topics covered are:

  • Rules of the Road: Signs, signals, road markings, right of way and parking and backing.
  • Defensive Driving and Collision Avoidance: Preventable vs. non-preventable, night driving and special hazards.
  • Speed and Seat Belts: Skid control and emergency maneuvers.
  • Drunk Driving: Prevention and detection.
